Your vacation is a once in a year event most of the time. It is a time for relaxation, a time to get out of the busy schedules and routine of your daily life, a time to spend time with the family, loved ones etc. A vacation could mean different things to different people, but one thing a vacation should mean to everyone is that, it is a time to be happy or find happiness. What this means is that when you are on vacation, you should do the things you enjoy, things that makes you happy and things that makes you to remember that period of your life. if after a vacation, you feel stressed up, tired, unhappy, then something was certainly wrong with your vacation. To ensure you leave your vacation fulfilled, you have to get it right from planning to execution phase.

I am going to give you some tips to help you get the best out of your vacation and enjoy it to the fullest. Many years ago I made mistakes when planning my vacation and always come back not being fulfilled. Vacation would be a waste of time and money if not properly planned and executed. The tips are from my own experience and I hope it makes sense to you. lets check it out.

Know Where to go and when to go to enjoy your vacation

Except you are travelling back to your own country or town for your vacation (that is if you live and work in a different country), First thing to do before going on vacation is to ask yourself, where do I want to spend my vacation? In 2011, I was not planning to go for a vacation, but a group of friends were planning to do, and I just jumped in. Everything in that vacation was wrong. Wrong place, wrong timing. it was a waste of time, effort and money. You need to get the right place and go at the right time. Do you want a silent or a loud vacation? if you want a silent vacation, go to a quiet town in Belgium and be silent, if you want a loud vacation, then go to the centre of Paris. If you find yourself in a Belgian town, when you want to be at the centre of Paris, it will be an experience you will want to forget. If you go at the wrong time, you will spend your vacation doing what you left undone or rushing back home to get things you need to do, done. This brings us to the next tips below.

Pre-vacation tasks

Anybody that goes on vacation and leaves somethings out of the normal routine undone, is bound to carryover those task into their vacation and not enjoy it. A pre-vacation task is all you need to do before going on your trip. This could be an assigned task in your office, it could be contracts that needs to be signed, a contract that needs to be completed, or even a promise to someone to help them get something done.
Before going on vacation, you need to clear your desk and everything that will make someone give you a call, or send you an email about something you have left undone. Imagine you have just arrived your destination for your holiday, and you get a call from your boss, or an email asking about the report you are supposed to turn in at the weekend, or a check you are supposed to sign or a contract you should be handing over. An unchecked pre-vacation task could cut short your holiday and put you back on the next flight home or keeps you restless and disturbed throughout your holiday. A time of relaxation will now become a time of worry, anxiety and stress. to avoid such unwanted moments, ensure that your clear your desk, so that you wont get any distraction at a time you are supposed to be relaxing.

Post-vacation tasks

The post vacation tasks are the things you need to do when you are back from your holiday. We definitely will have a lot of things to do when we come back from our holiday, but we shouldn’t leave very important things to be on our desk on an expiring deadline. A good example will be a presentation to your management two days after you return from your trip. The negative side of this is that the last weeks or days of your vacation will be spent working instead of resting and if you forget that a presentation is waiting for you when you return, you will be a nervous wreck and will most likely deliver a half cooked meal to your bosses. This is not a position you will want to be in, and to avoid this, you have to plan properly before choosing a date for your trip. Look up your schedule and choose a time when you wont have very important tasks waiting on your doorsteps when you return or better still, you can finish up some important future task before you leave for your trip.

Budget and vacation to do list

The importance of having the right budget for a trip can never be over-emphasized. Nobody wants to be stranded in a place far from home and nobody will want to have some kind of fun or buy something while on vacation, and find out you don’t actually have enough money to finance it. This can only happen if you don’t have a budget and not having a budget means you don’t have a vacation to do list. Before you go on vacation, sit down, an have a to do list, having a to do list also means you have a not to do list. Except you are an Arab Sheikh or a billionaire from Russia or the child of one of them, then you can do without a budget and a to do list. The advantage of having a budget and a vacation to do list is that you will have a plan before you hop on that flight and having a plan only means that you are set to succeed and success brings happiness and happiness is one of the goals of vacations.

Take care of important items

In my 2011 unplanned trip, I lost my little bag that contains my international passport. that was the begin of sorrows for me. The next one week was spent at my country’s embassy trying to get a document to travel back home. While others of my company were having fun, I was not. It was very difficult to solve some problems away from home. Lose your bank card on vacation and you don’t have your bank around to walk in to get a new one or no cardless withdrawal available, the stress you will go through trying to sort these issues out will leave you drained out and spent out when you return back home and for sure you will be unhappy, which is not what we want out from a vacation.

Conclusion

When you fail to plan , we all know that you have planned to fail. When you fail, you will definitely be unhappy. Unhappiness at the end of a vacation is not what we want. Therefore, if you follow these tips and these ones here you could have a happy ending and truly enjoy your vacation. Remember, we enjoy what makes us happy. Thanks for reading to the end. Bon Voyage.
