Whether you want to plan a solo or family trip, it seems that your bucket list starts playing hide and seek when it’s time to choose a destination. I get it, it’s a difficult task to decide the best place to go. So for your quick pick and fun-filled trip, I have listed down the top 5 best vacation spots in the world.

The city of love and light Paris is undisputedly one of the best cities to explore. And to experience paradise on earth, nothing can beat Bora Bora Island. Machu Picchu and Grand Canyon stand tall with their abandoned beauty and attractions. Santorini Island also is a must-visit.

Based on the activities you want to explore and your needs, one of these might delight you and others might appall you. So to help you decide where and when to go, this article describes some activities and the best times you need to know.

What Are The Best Vacation Spots?

It is not easy to narrow down the beautiful vacation spots to a top 5. But considering the variety of activities a place offers and US News Travel recommendations, I have listed down these spots:

  • Paris
  • Bora Bora
  • Peru, Machu Picchu
  • Grand Canyon
  • Santorini

1. Paris

Paris is not in the center of France only; it also stays in the center of every hodophile’s heart. They say that Paris and Romance go together like cookies and milk. But that does not mean that you cannot visit there without having a love interest. Because this mythical city of light has something to offer to everyone. Especially for art, fashion, and history lovers.

The majestic Eiffel Tower is something to make your jaw drop. Especially at night when the tower sparkles in thousands of flickering light bulbs. But if you want to capture its fascinating beauty, do it in the daytime. Because it’s illegal to take pictures at night. To get a panoramic view of the city, you can get to the top of the tower. Though the price is high, it is worth it.

This city has top-notch museums to explore. If you cannot decide which one to visit, I suggest you not miss out on Musee du Louvre. It is one of the best art museums in the whole of Europe. Enough of seeing mommy tombs in the movies, it’s time to see them up close and personal at Louvre. And there are thousands of paintings including Vinci’s Mona Lisa to leave you in awe. Its cobblestoned streets like Rue Daguerre are also enough to take a stroll among the food stalls. And enjoy the tranquil ambiance at café terraces.

2. Bora Bora

It’s a small Pacific island in French Polynesia. Its aquamarine lagoon, overwater bungalow, serene beaches, and underwater life make it the most celebrated island globally.

Some like to refer to it as the Garden of Eden as blue and green steal the show. You and your kids can explore its lush green by foot, bike, or scooter and no dangerous wildlife or insect will spoil the stroll. Because it’s a snake and pest-free zone.

Its Lagoonarium is a small aquarium where you can safely encounter turtles, rays, and sharks. You can head towards Tupai Island to witness the heart-shaped coral reef.

Even if you are not up for snorkelling or scuba diving, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the ocean from the resort itself. As the resorts or overwater bungalows have direct access to the ocean. This place is the best option to regain your peace.

3. Machu Picchu

This citadel is in southern Peru and it’s an abandoned beauty. Just because it is an abandoned place, does not mean that there is no hotel close to it. There is a lodge close to this place with a good view of the mountain. So do not worry if you plan to stay close to the citadel.

A protective wall of mountains guards this place. And if you want to get a better view of this hidden city, consider climbing to the witch’s hat of the Huayna Picchu Mountain. But you need to book your ticket to get to the top.

If the history of rulers and empires fascinates you, then do not miss out on this place. You can explore its Royal Tomb and Ritual stones to witness the architects of the Inca Empire. I suggest you explore with a local guide to bring the glory of the site to life.

4. Grand Canyon

It is one of the world’s seven natural wonders located in northern Arizona. Its mesmerizing rock formation, Colorado River, and wildflower blossom make it one of the adventurous places for hiking and exploring.

A rafting trip down the river awaits you for a grand view of this place. Some tour companies offer motorized raft tours if you or your family does not want to row or paddle the boat yourself.

A hot air balloon trip or a helicopter ride over the Canyon is an embarking journey to witness its wildlife, array of plants, and native birds. And the majestic sunrise will top the ride for sure. But if you want to witness its bottom, you can hike along the trails. And the variety of blossoming wildflowers will welcome you.

5. Santorini

This Greek island is a head-turner to every traveller. There is so much to do here that one visit is not enough. Still at your first visit consider sailing around, visiting nearby villages and lighthouses.

To get a better view of its churches and volcano, the boat trip awaits. And the trip also offers snorkelling in the pristine water and sunbathing on the deck. But the best view of this blue and white place comes from the Akrotiri Lighthouse.

On a lazy evening, you can just pull up a deckchair. And enjoy a movie screening on open-air cinema screens beside a tree on Kamari road.

What Are the Best Times to Visit These Places?

Whenever you travel, it becomes the best time in itself. But if you prefer to have a breathing room in your tour budget, good weather to explore, and a less crowded ambiance, you need to travel at some specific times of the year.

Visiting Paris from June to August (summer) and September to October (fall) is a chef’s kiss for the weather. If you like to explore places in long days of sunshine, then fall and summer times are just about parfait (perfect). Unfortunately, you cannot expect to cut down on expenses at those peak times. But winter (December to February) can save you bucks.

Who says exploring an Island only on sunny days awaits you all the adventures? Yeah, no one. Bora Bora’s beauty comes to life when the rain makes everything lush and green. So the summer wet season from December to March is the best time to explore the rainy beauty. But if you are a “rain, rain go away” person, June to August are the best times to visit.

Peru Machu Picchu is most crowded during the festival season of June. So if you prefer shorter lines at its attractions, visit in April or November. But for the best trekking experience under the bright blue skies, peak season or May and October is the best time. Do remember to book flights early for a visit during that dry season.

Not only does the hiking trail awaits you at the Grand Canyon, dehydration awaits too if you visit at the wrong time. The temperature ranges from the mid-80s to mid-90s there during May and June. So choose to hike and explore during shoulder seasons from March to April when the temperature is moderate and the crowd is thinner.

If you want to experience how Santorini presents itself in different seasons, visit during low seasons from November to April. From sunny days to winter chill to moderate rain showers- all in one season. But for sightseeing or food blogging, there is no better time than May and October. The weather remains pleasantly warm to take a stroll with kids or alone.

Conclusion

It gets easier to explore a place when you know what to expect there and when to go. Now that you know what awaits you at the best vacation spots in the world, consider visiting one of these for an adventure of a lifetime.

Thank you for reading till the end. Bon voyage.
